Our History
A Legacy Rooted in Vision, Service & Ayurveda
The foundation of our institution traces back to an inspiring life experience of Late Shri B. M. Kankanawadi, a dedicated officer in the Police Department whose faith in Ayurveda was awakened during a deeply personal tragedy. After witnessing the remarkable diagnostic wisdom of an eminent Vaidya during his wife’s illness, Shri Kankanawadi recognized the profound scientific and healing potential of Ayurveda.
Driven by this transformative realization, he established Karnataka Ayurveda Vidyapeeth in 1933 with a noble vision to preserve, promote, and revitalize the timeless science of Ayurveda. What began as a mission inspired by personal loss evolved into a pioneering institution committed to holistic healthcare, quality Ayurvedic education, research, and service to society.
Over the decades, this vision has flourished into KLEU’s Shri B. M. K. Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, PG Studies & Research Centre — a respected center of excellence dedicated to nurturing future Ayurvedic professionals while upholding the rich heritage and values of Indian traditional medicine.
